Detailed Description

Tri-Angle SharpMaker

When you need to get it sharp, the 204 is all you need. Spyderco's Tri-Angle SharpMaker includes two sets of high Alumina Ceramic* stones: A pair of medium grit (dark) stones for aggressive sharpening, and a pair of fine stones (white) for professional grade finishing. There is also a set of brass safety rods to protect the user's hand during sharpening. For sharpening plain edges, the flat sides of the stones are ideal. For serrated edges use the corners. The stones fit into keyed holes and slots molded into the polymer base and have a 40 degree and 30 degree sharpening angle for knives and a 12 1/2 degree scissor setting. A groove running the length of the stone is for sharpening pointed objects like darts, awls and fishhooks. All components pack into the base and the lid snaps shut making the 204 self contained and small enough to carry in the field. No lubrication is required during use for dry, mess-free sharpening. Includes a great instruction DVD and booklet.
Made in the U.S., Alumina Ceramic is a ceramic compound formed when alumina particles (synthetic sapphires) are mixed with a ceramic bonding agent. The mixture is shaped, then kiln fired at temperatures in excess of 3000 degrees Fahrenheit for up to three days. Alumina ceramics come in three grits: Ultra fine grit, fine grit (both are closed celled and never wear over time or use), and medium grit (open cell which does wear out over time). The Tri-Angle Sharpmaker includes a pair of the fine grit and the medium grit stones.

The Tri-Angle Sharpmaker is my favorite sharpener. In fact, I keep one set up on my desk for keeping my knives in tip-top shape. A special recommendation: If you find yourself sharpening knives or tools that become very dull, I also highly recommend Spyderco's Diamond Hones to fit the Tri-Angle SharpMaker. Jeff

Wow
Dustin Shireman (ELMIRA, NY) 4/11/2014 8:56 PM
Just received my SharpMaker today and with no sharpening experience I took my Spyderco Delica 4 ZDP-189 from pathetically dull to face shaving sharp, tip to heel. This product is super simple to use. I was hesitant at first to sharpen my Delica having never done it before. I watched the first 15 minutes of the DVD and leafed through the instruction book, but mostly I dove right in. I just finished my Cold Steel AK-47 and it too is face shaving sharp. My advice is to take your time and take deliberate strokes on the stones. This is also very fast, 20 minutes taken to sharpen 2 knives with zero experience. Once I do a few more I'm sure I would be able to cut that time in half. I also got the Ultra-Fine stones and with practice I feel I would be able to get my knives scary sharp using the SharpMaker. Kudos to Cutlery Shoppe on very very fast shipping. Ordered Wednesday 04-09-14 a little after noon and had it today Friday 04-11-14.

I finally got it and went on a sharpening spree. All of my knives are hair shaving sharp now. Just throw your other sharpeners in the trash and get this, believe me, you'll never go back.

Perfect Newbie Sharpener

This is for real the perfect sharpener for beginners. I'm really bad at sharpening knifes but with this I got all razor sharp. If you can't get the angles right with manual sharpening go for this.

Very good

First off I'll say I'm a knife sharpening novice. After watching the DVD and following along I had blades sharper than when I purchased them. I was even able to get a sharper than factory edge on my Spyderco Delica in VG-10. It's easier than I expected and I only had to spend about 5 minutes per knife.
