Detailed Description

Tri-Angle SharpMaker

When you need to get it sharp, the 204 is all you need. Spyderco's Tri-Angle SharpMaker includes two sets of high Alumina Ceramic* stones: A pair of medium grit (dark) stones for aggressive sharpening, and a pair of fine stones (white) for professional grade finishing. There is also a set of brass safety rods to protect the user's hand during sharpening. For sharpening plain edges, the flat sides of the stones are ideal. For serrated edges use the corners. The stones fit into keyed holes and slots molded into the polymer base and have a 40 degree and 30 degree sharpening angle for knives and a 12 1/2 degree scissor setting. A groove running the length of the stone is for sharpening pointed objects like darts, awls and fishhooks. All components pack into the base and the lid snaps shut making the 204 self contained and small enough to carry in the field. No lubrication is required during use for dry, mess-free sharpening. Includes a great instruction DVD and booklet.
Made in the U.S., Alumina Ceramic is a ceramic compound formed when alumina particles (synthetic sapphires) are mixed with a ceramic bonding agent. The mixture is shaped, then kiln fired at temperatures in excess of 3000 degrees Fahrenheit for up to three days. Alumina ceramics come in three grits: Ultra fine grit, fine grit (both are closed celled and never wear over time or use), and medium grit (open cell which does wear out over time). The Tri-Angle Sharpmaker includes a pair of the fine grit and the medium grit stones.

The Tri-Angle Sharpmaker is my favorite sharpener. In fact, I keep one set up on my desk for keeping my knives in tip-top shape. A special recommendation: If you find yourself sharpening knives or tools that become very dull, I also highly recommend Spyderco's Diamond Hones to fit the Tri-Angle SharpMaker. Jeff

Very good

First off I'll say I'm a knife sharpening novice. After watching the DVD and following along I had blades sharper than when I purchased them. I was even able to get a sharper than factory edge on my Spyderco Delica in VG-10. It's easier than I expected and I only had to spend about 5 minutes per knife.

awesome sharpening system
Jonathan Rogers (Indianapolis, IN) 1/7/2012 2:41 AM
I have always had issues sharpening my knives, best case was one of the systems that clamp to the blade and maintain the angel but I always ended up scratching the blade. This system is the BEST I have ever used! I followed the simple instructions and after practicing on about 4 pocket knives I was able to take hair off my forearm, I have never been able to get a knife that sharp before let alone that easily! I would recommend this product in a heartbeat! My only issue is the price, it is a little bit steep (cutleryshoppe’s price is about the same as everyone else’s) but you are getting a quality product.

Don't search anything else!

As you can read any review about this sharpener, you won't find better! I bought this one with 2 extra fine stones and i've got now a factory sharp on all my knives. So i just placed another order to buy diamond hones and replacement hones (fine and medium). Don't think anymore about buying other sharpening systems (that i've already tried), this one is simply the best one! Thanks spyderco!

The Best Sharpener I've Ever Used
Marty Shapiro (Apache Junction, AZ) 10/31/2009 8:37 AM
I e-mailed Jeff asking which sharpener to buy, and this one came highly recommended. As usual, Jeff was right on the money. This Tri-Angle SharpMaker was easy to use, worked perfectly, and easily sharpened even the old Italian stilleto I use to open my mail and boxes. I set the sharpener up to hone, spent a couple of minutes, and had the blade sharper than new. What I liked most was I didn't scratch the blade during the process, something I've done often enough in the past. I've since sharpened a bunch of different knives, including kitchen knives with the same success, following the instruction book as to correct angles and stones. Easy as pie. Thanks Jeff.
