LaGana Vietnam Tactical Tomahawk
Meant for business, this is the only tomahawk that was designed and authorized by the late
Peter LaGana. Beware of the many look-alikes, this hi-tech hawk is a hard-core, no-nonsense
battlefield tool. In fact, it's currently being issued to elite American troops in Iraq and
Afghanistan. The hawk head is drop forged from a solid piece of O1 carbon steel -- not cast
like cheaper imitation tomahawks. The precision Nylon handle is hydraulically pressed into the
head, making it nearly indestructible. The handle is slightly oval shaped, with finger grooves,
and has a special diamond tread-plate pattern for a better grip. Each LaGana Tactical Tomahawk, or
VTAC as they're known includes a fully lined "jumpable" black Nylon belt sheath that is made to
exacting military specifications. This sheath allows carry via LBE/LBV, MOLLE, on a belt, or with a
sling. Fits all belts, including GI pistol belts. This top-quality tomahawk is proudly made in

I've never been a big fan of 2-piece hawks...and always manage to break them. Until now. Have used and abused this hawk in ways that are beyond the limits of what would be considered normal. It's been thrown, crushed, burned, and frozen. Used to cut wood, vegetation, rope, strapping, bone, ice, and metal. Spike has penetrated steel and kevlar. Looks like hell...performs as well as it did the day it was received.
This isn't the fanciest or most aesthetic 2-piece hawk on the market. And if cost was not a factor I'd still recommend a custom solid steel hawk from RMJ Tactical. But for a 2-piece hawk this has a LOT going for it over even more expensive models. First of all...price. This is the most hawk you're likely to find for the money on the market. Second...design. Like Peter LaGana's original design, this hawk has five sharpened edges...including the beard. In the hands of someone that really knows how to use a hawk, a sharpened beard probably increases the hawk's potential by 300%. Third...durability. After throwing this hawk thousands of times, and doing everything I could possible do (short of taking a saw or blow torch to it) to try to break the handle or at least get it to loosen from the head, I can't perceive any difference in how solid the head is attached and how straight the handle remains.
American Tomahawk Company REALLY got this right. LaGana would be really proud of this hawk. Stay away from the cheap imports and imitations. With the exception of the custom handmade 1-piece hawks, the strength, design, flexibility, and durability of the VTAC put it in a class all by itself. And thanks to CS for making it so affordable!
You know that mythical "If you could only take one thing into the wilderness" question? For me, this could easily be that one thing. From survival to hunting to bushcraft to extraction to personal protection...this is the biggest "bang for the buck" at under $100. Thanks, Peter. We honor your legacy. Doc

This tomahawk has a light but strong structure. You can use it hard, the edge and spike have no damages.
The angle of grinding is sufficient for a tool, but I suggest to reduce it for SD purpose resulting more effective piercing. Sheath is light, safety and handy. The plastic handle should be used with gloves to avoid any sliding, but it is unbreakable!
The LaGana Tomahawk is a small piece of American History, 5 stars must be given!
