Benchmade Osborne Rift - Cutlery Shoppe Exclusive
We like the Osborne design Benchmade Rift so much, we asked Benchmade to build this special version just for our customers. Though
their "regular" version is great with its 154CM blade, we kicked it up a notch and had these built with CPM-S30V steel The reverse tanto
blade is "hell for stout" and with it full-belly blade is built for real world tasks. Blade action is smooth, and lock-up is solid, thanks
to the AXIS lock system.
A couple years ago when we were asking what color
options were available in the G-10, and when they showed us this orange/black we knew this was the one. The G-10 is textured for a better grip,
which not only brings out the two color look, but is much more comfortable in your hand to use. The "edges" of the handle are also chamfered,
which makes them even kinder to your hands and pocketes.
Benchmade is building us two versions, one in satin finish, and one with their BK1

When you view this beauty in person, it's hard not to think about Halloween. The G-10 orange and black scales are vibrant and exquisitely machined.
But beauty was somewhat skin deep on the knife I received.
The blade was not centered very well, open - close action was less than smooth, and blade edge finish and sharpness was something that presented a challenge that turned out to be a rewarding endeavor.
This knife is a scaled down version of BM's 810 Contego and I own 2 of them and have experienced similar problems with the first one I purchased in the CPM M4 edition. The second one (810-1401) M390 steel was perfect in all areas with the exception of edge finish and sharpness (don't expect anything close to perfection from BM when it comes to edge finish).
I employed the same corrective measures used on the Contego M4.
I took the knife apart (that's the easy part) and polished the washer bushings on a ceramic slab and did the same with the blade bearing areas of the blade and liners (my knife has the black coating on the blade and that's much of the problem the coating needs to be polished out in the washer areas).
The blade finish and sharpness just takes time and a knack for blade angle.
You'll need to establish a 30 degree blade angle and finish with a 20 degree micro edge.
So after these corrections that really were a pleasure (I'm retired and I've got nothing better to do) I now have a piece of CPM-S30V perfectly centered, sandwiched between some really vibrant G-10 scales that deploys and retracts like silk against glass.

This is my first Benchmade knife to date and I'm 100% sure it won't be the last. I've been drawn to cool knives since owning my first Kershaw. I have bought several basic utility knives over the years but now I only buy limited or exclusive sprint runs. You can easily feel the quality in a Benchmade Or Spyderco. I like the orange black/g-10 with black blade very much and I hope to never loose it. I buy most of my knives from Jeff at Cutlery Shoppe. He keeps a wide variety of knives and has awesome prices. Keep your friends close and your blades closer...
Great exclusive, cool coloration, awesome edc!

This knife looks great and the action is perfect. I'd had the Rift on my list for a while, when I saw this coloration with the s30v steel I had to pull the trigger. It also has cool orange anodized stand offs that complete the knife perfectly. Not disappointed.
