A living legend by Benchmade.
Aegis Lu (West Lafayette, IN) 2/13/2013 4:46 PM
I am not going to talk about a child's toy, this is a truly tactical blade under the class of Black Box. I do collect knives a little bit, and have to admit, that this particular piece of metal has just the most power of all folding knives I have ever had in hand. Comes with the Benchmade edge, the CPM-M4 steel is just a beast. It does not cut, but TEARs thing apart. You can even tell that from how it sounds like. From personal experience, it is about the same class with Elmax, which is a German steel produced by Bohler-Uddeholm, but have higher HRC(62 or up) and went beyond D2, VG-10 or even S30V. Actually this knife has been in my hand for alomst two weeks and I am using it, at present I still have not seen any necessity to resharpen it yet. But DO REMEMBER, this is a none-stainless high-speed tool steel, that means, it rusts, at least in some cases, so please, if you have it or plan to have it, keep it away from water, keep it away from humidity, and oil it often. Oh yes the blade shape, that is what must not be forgotten. Reverse tanto, I love it! Long belly without losing the strength on tip, this design is perfect with both self-defense or utility roles (remenber what has been talked above? Best not use it for food preparation). Ergonomics? What more can I say on this! Thanks to proper textures, the G-10 handle offers a fantastic grip, and feel good in all positions. Deep finger choil, jimping on both sides, ambidextrous Axis Lock and thumb stud just add to this. Great work Osborne, great work Benchmade! Note: the weight is up to 5.8 ounces, for nothing but its full-sized four inch blade, and strong stainless scales. And this should have improved the efficiency of its tiny glass breaker. Pocket clip for deep carry prevents you from losing this half-pound blade. Will be better if having a lanyard hole/tube (I really cannot ask for more). All in all: High-valued deal that can take the test, state of the art with an outstanding design.

This is a brute of a folder.

This is a big boy, pretty much one of the toughest knives on the block. It really is a tactical monster for a folder, and beautifully made as well. It feels heavy in the hand despite its average weight, opens and closes very smoothly. I wanted this as a survival blade, and the long cutting surface and heft are perfect around the campfire and on the trail. The carbide tip is excellent for emergency window breaking as well. I don't like the lack of a lanyard hole, but the clip is so tight that you can loop a lanyard through it with no problem. My only complaint are the ergonomics of the handle. Though the choil fits two fingers easily, the edges of the G10 are not rounded and are sharp on the fingers. The handle width there is pretty thin as well. But the knife is so well made that I bought it anyway, and will customize the handle with a patterned G10 and have them build out the scales at the choil so that it's more shallow, still with jimping however. You can't beat Jeff for service, this is the fourth blade I've bought from him. Straight up customer service.

Perfect EDC blade
Michael MacCalla (Yakima, WA) 8/10/2012 11:18 AM
Just got this the other day. Ergo's are fantastic! Grippy handle but not too rough as some have reported. Exceptionally smooth action. Fit and finish are perfect. Blade centered. Came sharp and was easy to bring to shaving sharp. Knife is comfortable in all grips and is very easy to manipulate in use. This knife in combative-M4 is one exceptionally good deal.
